Darryl Landis, MD, MBA, joined Genova Diagnostics in 2012 as Chief Medical Officer. Dr Landis is responsible for clinical research activities and leads the Medical Education Program at Genova Diagnostics. Under his guidance, Genova Diagnostics will continue the strategic development of innovative technologies for new diagnostic tests.
Formerly, Dr. Landis served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Health Intelligence at CorSolutions and oversaw several executive roles with United Healthcare of North Carolina and Ingenix, a division of UnitedHealth Group. He is a board-certified physician with extensive experience as a family medicine practitioner and physician executive. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Science at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Landis holds a medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Andrea Girman, MD, MPH, is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, pediatric residency program and Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2002, she completed fellowship training in Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center's Continuum Center for Health and Healing in New York. Prior to joining Genova in September 2008, Dr. Girman was an active clinician and consultant. She is co-author of Mosby's Handbook of Herbs and Supplements and their Therapeutic Uses and a contributor to Integrative Medicine: Principles for Practice.
Elizabeth Betsy Redmond, PhD, MMSc, RDN, completed her Master of Medical Science degree at Emory University in Atlanta, and her Doctorate in Nutrition at the University of Georgia. Dr. Redmond previously held the position of Nutrition Director at Clark Atlanta University Head Start, functioned as Research Nutritionist on the National Institutes of Healths Women's Health Trial Feasibility Study in Minority Populations at Emory University, and also worked in private practice. She is the current Chair of Dietitians in Integrative Medicine (DIFM), a practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. As Medical Education Manager for Genova Diagnostics, Dr. Redmond oversees strategic clinical information resources and coordinates the creation and dissemination of educational materials for Genova Diagnostics tests.
Michelle Maddux, ND, received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix, also in Arizona. Dr. Maddux focused clinically on the areas of nutrition, integrative medicine, adolescent medicine, and eating disorders. She provides educational support to physicians and represents Genova Diagnostics in new-physician outreach programs.
Cass Nelson-Dooley, MS, has served as a Medical Education Specialist since January of 2006, educating clinicians in interpretation of laboratory data for prevention and treatment of disease. At the University of Georgia, she completed a bachelors degree in Biomedical Ethnobotany and a masters degree in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences with an emphasis on Ethnopharmacology. Ms. Nelson-Dooley received the Fulbright Scholar award to study in Bocas del Toro, Panama. She is co-author of "Nutrient and Toxic Elements" in the textbook, Laboratory Evaluations for Integrative and Functional Medicine and has published in journals such as The Journal of Nutrition, Obesity Research, and Current Medicinal Chemistry. Ms. Nelson-Dooley has presented to both national and international audiences on the topics of disease prevention, drug discovery research, obesity, and osteoporosis.
Christie Egeston, MS, received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tennessee State University and a Master of Science in Medical Science from Hampton University. Ms. Egeston has worked in several capacities in the medical field, including plasma donor technician, medical assistant for a pain management facility, and laboratory assistant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While working as a Support Specialist, Ms. Egeston helped prepare educational materials for seminars and compiled research in support of supplement recommendations.
Stephen Goldman, DC, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts. He received a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College, where he also served as a member of the faculty. Following 25 years of family practice in Los Angeles, where he worked largely with athletes and patients concerned with optimal health, Dr. Goldman relocated to Asheville and joined the Medical Education team at Genova Diagnostics. As a Medical Education Specialist, Dr. Goldman provides educational support to physicians and also authors medical education support materials.
Terry Pollock, MS, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Life sciences from NC State University and her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from East Carolina University. Prior to joining Metametrix in 2008 as their first Clinical Consultant, Ms. Pollock was Curator of Education for the NC Aquarium and a research associate in Metabolic Disease via a National Institutes of Health grant at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She was an editorial reviewer for Alternative Medicine Review for 15 years. In 2000, Ms. Pollock began a 6-year term teaching in university and elementary settings and consulting in private practice. Returning to Metametrix in 2006 as a Medical Education Specialist, Ms. Pollock regularly gives presentations to clinicians worldwide on metabolic testing for chronic disease and advocating knowledge on the healing properties of natural systems.
Dr. Margaret Steele is a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Arizona. She graduated with highest honors from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. She also earned her Masters degree in Acupuncture from the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Steele is particularly interested in clinical nutrition, gastrointestinal health, environmental medicine, and endocrinology.
Christine Stubbe, ND, received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. She completed a 3-year family practice/ oncology residency at Yellowstone Naturopathic Clinic and Frontier Cancer Center in Billings, Montana. Dr. Stubbe joined the Medical Education team at Genova Diagnostics to provide educational support to practitioners.
Teresa P. McBride, ND, received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. Prior to joining the staff at Genova Diagnostics, Dr. McBride was in clinical practice with a focus on primary care. Dr. McBride has done research and consulting for the natural foods industry in the areas of diet and nutrition. She is responsible for the development and integration of multi-media educational materials to support practitioners in the clinical application of Genova Diagnostic laboratory tests.
Elizabeth Fowler, Ph.D, received her Doctorate in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston with an emphasis in biology and psychology. Before joining Genova Diagnostics, Dr. Fowler focused her research efforts on highly chronic diseases including colon and bladder cancer. Dr. Fowler initially joined Genova Diagnostics as a Medical Education Specialist and now utilizes her research background in our Clinical Evidence Development department to develop and foster various research agendas.
Cathy Morris, BS, earned her degree in Biology/pre-med from Emory University and the University of Texas at Austin. She also did some graduate work in environmental and occupational health. She worked as a Research Specialist at Emory University Medical School, then took on the position of Information Specialist for the Gwinnett County Public Library System for the next 19 years. She joined Metametrix in 2003 to put their physical and electronic library together and eventually became their Librarian/Research Support person. In this capacity, she supported the Education Department with literature searches, data analysis, library maintenance, book production, etc. She is now the Clinical Evidence Assistant with Genova Diagnostics and continues to use her information finding skills to support the evidence papers behind Genova Diagnostics testing.
Joan Sunderland, MBA, joined Genova Diagnostics in 2013 as Director of Payer Relations. Ms. Sunderland is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating Genova Diagnostics external relations with payers. Ms. Sunderland has worked in the areas of health economics, reimbursement & market access for the healthcare/medical device industry for many years. Prior to Genova Diagnostics, Ms. Sunderland worked for Edwards Lifesciences, Calypso Medical Technologies, Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic in launching novel medical technologies with payers. Ms. Sunderland graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.S. and the Atkinson Graduate School of Management where she earned her M.B.A.
Dr. Lord received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the Clayton Foundation Biochemical Institute, the University of Arizona, and the National Institutes of Health. He served as Professor of Biochemistry and Clinical Nutrition for 10 years at Life College, during which he maintained a practice of clinical nutrition assessment and counseling.
He joined MetaMetrix Clinical Laboratory, where he became actively involved in the development of new testing methodologies and innovative laboratory report combinations that have become hallmarks in functional medicine patient assessments. He remains active as Chief Science Officer with the laboratory now merged as Genova Diagnostics Inc. conducting research into developing new clinical laboratory assessments. He has authored multiple books and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles in addition to teaching Functional Medicine Nutrition in The University of Bridgeports Masters degree in human nutrition. He co-authored and edited the book, Laboratory Evaluations in Integrative and Functional Medicine, which has received great praise in the integrative medicine community.
