Understanding the Neuroendocrine System

A Novel Approach to HPA Axis Dysfunction

April 3, 2024

Overview

Dr. Mote specializes in the stress response, circadian rhythm, and sleep optimization for optimal health. Since 2001, he has been teaching on salivary hormone testing, offering unique perspectives on adrenal health assessment. Cortisol serves as a surrogate marker for the body's stress response. He describes the Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) as "a stress test for the brain and its capacity to organize a stress response."

The limbic system is intimately related to HPA axis function and if understood can make treatment of stress-related disorders far more effective. Daily stress triggers the "fight or flight" response, releasing cortisol. However, chronic stress can disrupt the HPA axis, leading to health issues. This webinar will explore the Limbic system's influence on HPA axis function and sex, sleep, and stress hormones, focusing on CAR as a key indicator of HPA resilience. Attendees will learn how measuring CAR and daily cortisol rhythms helps clinicians identify and address stress-related imbalances.

Learning Objectives
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the Limbic system's influence on HPA Axis and downstream hormones
  • Learn to interpret 4-point salivary cortisol in the context of CAR
  • Review treatments for the HPA axis that help to improve the overall hormone landscape
  • Including neurotransmitter support for abnormal CAR
