Coeliac Profile - (Gluten Sensitivity)

The Coeliac & Gluten Sensitivity test tests a patient's blood for total IgA as well as IgA specific antibodies for possible coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity. Coeliac disease, also known as coeliac sprue or gluten sensitivity enteropathy, is a chronic autoimmune disease which has a genetic component and may affect several family members. Coeliac is a lifelong condition with no cure however, it is manageable once diagnosed.

What is Coeliac Disease?

Coeliac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust, and many other foods containing wheat, barley, or rye. When a person with Coeliac Disease eats food containing gluten, an immune reaction occurs in the small intestine, resulting in damage to the surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients from food.
